Solutions for login problem in wordpress website

by Sam

It is very alarming if you are unable to login to your own wordpress site. You might have forgotten your password or somebody might have done.

As a web developer, this incident happened to me many times. That’s why, I made several research about this and added on this website, perhaps, this might happen to other developers also. If you’re experiencing such problem, check the possible reasons with solutions below:

  1. Common WordPress login trouble
  2. Limit login Plugin Issue
  3. Your IP address has been blocked

Solution 1 : Common WordPress login trouble

Wordpress has a bunch of supports that help developers solve their problems. One of which, is the guide for login trouble. If you are encountering a problem in logging in, I suggest you to read the login trouble guide of wordpress and follow the instructions.

Solution 2 : Limit login Plugin Issue

If you have installed the “Limit Login Attempts” plugin, try to deactivate or rename it. For some reasons, this plugin has been updated years ago and is not compatible with your current wordpress version. After you deactivated this plugin, login again.

If you can login,

Option 1: Install a “Whitelist IP for Limit Login Attempts” plugin and add your IP address on the white list.

Option 2: Uninstall your “Limit Login Attempts” and install the most updated plugin or reinstall the recent one.

After you chose any of those options, logout your admin panel and login again. If you cannot login, try Solution 3

Solution 3 : Your IP address might had been blocked

  1. Check your IP address in http://whatismyipaddress.com/
  2. Go to your cpanel, open your phpmyadmin and select the database. From your database, check if your ipaddress is existing in the list by pasting this query below:

    SELECT option_value from wp_options where option_value like '%your_ipaddress%'
  3. If the above has a record entry, reset the value to the IP to be unblocked:

    UPDATE wp_options SET option_value = REPLACE(option_value, 'your_ipaddress', '') WHERE option_name = 'limit_login_lockouts' LIMIT 1;
    1. I hope you’ll be able to login this time. If you have further questions, don’t hesitate to comment below.
